The Temporary Skill Shortage 482 Visa allows employers to deal with labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can not source an appropriately skilled Australian worker. The visa allows you to stay in Australia for up to 4 years and also allows you to travel to and from Australia as many times as you want, allows you to study in Australia although you won’t receive government assistance and also allows you to apply for permanent residency if you’re eligible.
Requirement For A Temporary Skill Shortage 482 Visa
- You must meet the minimum standards of English language proficiency unless you are exempted.
- You must have relevant skills assessment if this is needed for your job occupation.
- You must be nominated to work in an occupation that is on the list of eligible medium and long-term skill occupations
- You can only work for your sponsor or an associated entity except you are exempted and also
- You need to have at least two years of work experience that is relevant to your nominated occupation.

- The temporary skill shortage 482 Visa for the main applicants costs AUD 2,770.
- If you’re going with a dependant, it cost AUD 695 for each dependant that is under 18 years of age.
- You also need to pay for your English language test, police certificate, biometrics, and health checks.
Important things to note about the Temporary Skill Shortage 482 Visa
- If You want to stay longer in Australia for work and your visa expires, your employer would need to submit a new nomination and you must apply for a new visa.
- You may also be able to get your permanent residence if your employer sponsors you through the Employer Nomination Scheme which is Subclass 186 or the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 187.
- You can of course apply for your visa inside or outside Australia.
Documents needed for your Australian Temporary Skill Shortage 482 Visa
Qualifications and Experience
You will need to submit documents that show proof of your skills, qualifications, and experience. You can submit the necessary certificates, your previous employers’ references, your curriculum vitae your resume, and your proof of licencing and registration. Proof of English Proficiency
For English proficiency, you will need to show evidence that you meet the minimum requirements. For the IELTS exam, you must score 4.5 on each test, for the TOEFL exam You must have at least 35 points with at least three points for listening and reading and 12 points for speaking and writing, for the Cambridge C1 advanced test you must have 154 points in total with a score of 147 in each test and for the OET (Occupational English Test) You must have at least a “B” on each test and finally for the PTE (Pearson Test of English Academic) You must have at least 36 points in total and at least 30 points in each test.
Passport and Identification
To be able to apply for your 482 Visa, you will need to provide your valid international passport, and also the department of all affairs required means of identification documents which can include your marriage certificates, your ID card, birth certificate etc.
Minor Children’s Documents
If you are going to be travelling with your minor children, you will need to provide their birth certificates, copies of their international passports or any other necessary document. You also need to provide and fill in a form for parental consent or provide other forms of consent.
