Canadian Language Proficiency Tests and all you need to know. I know that a lot of Nigerians would disagree but whether or not we agree, one of the requirements for your japa journey for some countries is the language proficiency test. Now, depending on the country there are different language proficiency tests that are required and accepted by these countries.
For Canada, there are a number of language proficiency tests that are required of intending visitors to Canada. Canada speaks two major languages which are French and English. Depending on what you’re going to Canada for, and the province.
The IRCC doesn’t actually have a preferred test and any of the tests listed here is acceptable.
What is the IRCC
The IRCC is the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is the body that aids the arrival of immigrants to Canada, this body also provides protection for refugees and offers the necessary aid that will help people settle in Canada. The IRCC also issues travel documents such as passports to Canadians and is also the body in charge of granting citizenship to immigrants.
Some of the services of the IRCC include finding out what immigration programs you can apply for, a platform where you can apply for and also extend your work permit, apart from where you can apply for your study permit, a platform where you can apply for, resume or give up your Canadian citizenship, a platform when you immigrant can get a permanent residence card, and a platform where Canadians can get passports, get proof of citizenship, a platform where refugees can claim protection and also a platform where you can find out why you might not be allowed to enter into Canada.
The IRCC is also in charge of the language proficiency test which is a necessity in your visa application to be able to migrate to Canada. We also have another article that will help you with seamless integration in Canada, click here for that.
The Accepted Canadian Language Proficiency TestÂ
One of the things you will need to provide for your migration is an accepted Canadian language proficiency test result and the test results must come from an authorised organisation.
IELTSÂ
One of the accepted proficiency test results for Canadian immigration is the IELTS. There are two ways you can take the IELTS exams. You can take it on your computer which allows you to get your results in 3 to 5 days and the IELTS on paper which will mean you will get your results in 13 days. A lot of people go for the IELTS on the computer more than the IELTS on paper. Although the questions in both tests are the same. Created to give an accurate and fair assessment of your English language proficiency, and developed by language experts from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia and Canada.
The questions of the test cover listening, speaking, writing and reading. We have the IELTS for study, IELTS for work and IELTS for migration. There are also two different modules for IELTS and these are; General Training and Academic Training.
The IELTS General Training can only take place at a test centre on the computer or on paper while the IELTS Academic can be taken either online or at home where you have a stable internet connection or at a test centre on paper or computer.
In Nigeria, the cost of the IELTS exams ranges from 75,000 to 80,000 naira and this is because of the exchange rate and how volatile it is. The test is written more than once a year and there are many locations in Nigeria so you have to pick a location and time that works for you, depending on where you are going in Canada and what you are applying for are what will determine your acceptable score for the IELTS proficiency test. It is worth noting that the IELTS test result is only valid for 2 years
