Is Canada the Dream Destination?
Canada has remained a highly sought-after relocation option, particularly among Nigerians who want to japa. However, prospective immigrants often face challenges in securing employment and finding suitable housing. You have most likely heard talks about how it has been tough for people relocating to get a job and find apartments to live. In response to these needs, the Canadian government has introduced new measures to reduce the number of immigrants admitted over the next two years.
Canada Immigration Plans For 2025-2027
The Government of Canada recently revealed its immigration level plans for 2025-2027. These plans aim to promote sustainable growth and address issues related to housing and infrastructure by lowering the permanent resident targets to:
- 395,000 in 2025 (down from 500,000)
- 380,000 in 2026 (down from 500,000)
- And 365,000 in 2027
The plan is expected to result in a slight 0.2% decline in population in 2025 and 2026, with a potential increase of 0-8% in 2027. Additionally, the government intends to reduce the temporary resident population by 5% by the end of 2026, with targets set at:
- 445,901 in 2025
- 445,662 in 2026
- A modest increase to 17,439 in 2027
These measures are designed to ensure that all residents—including new migrants—have adequate access to social services, quality employment, and affordable housing. Prospective immigrants should consider these changes carefully when planning their applications to align with the new targets and requirements.
Your dreams of relocation are not impossible just because of these new changes to the population targets. You just have to ensure your application is well done to improve your chances.
