Portugal Introduces Job Seeker Visa Program

Portugal has recently introduced the Portugal job seeker visa program for individuals wishing to enter the country to seek employment opportunities. The job seeker visa will allow you to enter Portugal to search for a job for 120 days and can be extended for another 60 days.  while they look for a job, providing them with ample time to explore different career options and get a sense of the job market.

If after the visa has expired, the individual has not been successful in getting a job, you are expected to leave the country and can only reapply for the visa after one year. 

To be able to apply for a visa extension, you will need to have applied for the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) and must submit proof of your registration with your application for your visa extension. 

To be eligible for the Portugal job seeker visa, individuals must meet certain requirements and provide the necessary documentation. Here’s a closer look at what you need to know about the program:

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the Portugal job seeker visa program, individuals must meet the following requirements:

Sufficient financial means: Applicants must provide evidence that they have enough financial resources to support themselves during their stay in Portugal without needing to work. This could include bank statements, proof of savings, or a letter from a financial institution confirming that the individual has sufficient funds.

Valid passport: Applicants must have a valid passport that is valid for at least three months beyond their intended stay in Portugal.

Criminal record certificate: Applicants must provide a criminal record certificate from their country of origin or any other country where they have resided for more than one year in the past five years.

Declaration of the purpose and duration of the stay in Portugal: Applicants must provide a declaration stating the purpose of their stay in Portugal, including their intention to search for employment opportunities, and the expected duration of their stay.

Documentation Required:

In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements, individuals must provide the following documentation when applying for the Portugal job seeker visa:

Completed visa application form: Applicants must complete the visa application form and submit it to the Portuguese embassy or consulate in their country of residence.

Proof of means of return: Applicants must submit proof of means of return to their home country. 

Proof of financial means: Applicants must provide evidence of sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay in Portugal.

Passport photograph: Applicants must submit recently taken photographs for identification and attachment to the filled form. 

Travel and Medical insurance: Applicants must have travel and medical insurance that will cover their travel, health and medical needs during their stay in Portugal. 

Valid passport: Applicants must have a valid passport that is valid for at least three months beyond their intended stay in Portugal.

Criminal record certificate: Applicants must provide a criminal record certificate from their country of origin or any other country where they have resided for more than one year in the past five years.

Declaration of the purpose and duration of the stay in Portugal: Applicants must provide a declaration stating the purpose of their stay in Portugal, including their intention to search for employment opportunities, and the expected duration of their stay.

It is important to note that it is also compulsory that you show proof and submit documents that show your declaration of expression of interest for enrolment in the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP). You will need to fill out and submit the form for showing your expression of interest and enrollment before you can apply for your job seeker visa.

Remember that to be able to get the 60 days extension, you will need to have registered for the institute. 

Some of the jobs that are available in Portugal are finance, teachers, Customer service, jobs in the banking sector, auditing, veterinarian, analysts and developers, education assistants, biologists, botanists and zoologists, lorry drivers, artists and performing art workers, clerks, administrative and secretaries, bakers, pastry chefs and confectioners, Kitchen helpers and meal preparators, chefs and cooks, waiters and bartenders, hotel receptionist etc. 

It is much easier to get a job when you are inside Portugal as opposed to applying for these jobs from outside the country.
