Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program and 2 More Options You Should Know

-

The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program has gone a long way in putting at ease the minds of young people relocating to Canada. Something a lot of young people who want to relocate out of the country worry about is leaving their parents behind. It can be heart-wrenching having no choice but to leave them behind while you seek greener pastures.

After settling in, a lot of people would want to bring their parents or grandparents in to live with them or visit. What Canada has done is create different programmes that allow for children to be able to bring in their parents to Canada, whether to visit or to live with them permanently.  Canada has a parent and grandparent program with two alternatives to help deal with the backlog so let’s talk about it.

Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP)

One of the ways you can relocate your parents to Canada with you is to sign them up for the Specific Sponsorship Program. It is a very popular program created by the Canadian government. Although the competition to get in can be very steep. The Parent Grandparents Program is an income-based program and as a sponsor, you need to meet the income requirements for 3 years based on your family size. One good thing about this is that you can have more than one sponsor and your spouse or common-law partner’s income can also be added up to make up the required income.

The Lottery System

The Canadian government has also added the lottery system because the Parents and Grandparents sponsorship program used to be capped and had a specific number once the quota was filled a lot of applications would return unprocessed but with the lottery model, as a sponsor, you have the opportunity to apply for intent to sponsor through the web form when the application opens and then the government is able to pick parents or pick names from this randomly and if your parents are chosen you’re able to sponsor them to come to Canada to be with you.

Other Parent-Grandparent Relocation Options

Humanitarain and Compassionate

Super Visa

There are two other options that can help you get your parents to you in Canada

The first is the

Humanitarian and Compassionate –

This is not a particularly regular option for parents and grandparents but it can be an option and if you’re actually considered, there is a high chance that your parents and grandparents can become permanent Canadian residents

Super Visa

The second option is the supervisor and this is perfect for most families that have the money as there is no cap in this program. If you submit a well-done application, you have a high success rate and although this is also an income-based program it allows you to have your parents stay with you for 5 years in a row and they can actually stay longer with an extension but the Super Visa has major criteria of insurance coverage of $100,000 which is required up front
