A Nigerian YouTuber, Vivian who emigrated from Nigeria to Canada took to her youtube channel to share her experience and her journey to Canada, detailing the entire process. Â
Vivian talked about the importance of research and the CRS calculatorÂ
“First things first, on this journey, you want to make research your best friend. I’m going to recommend is to go to the CRS calculator. I know that there are a lot of websites out there that disguise the Canadian government or immigration telling you that they will help you calculate. Just ignore those ones, they’re going to ask you to put in your email. The real Canadian CRS calculator would not ask you for your email.
I know that you will not have everything that they would ask you, you just have to do a simulation, put the things that you have and see what the score is going to be like so that you know what is required of you. What I’m trying to say is, you’re going build and create a plan out of requirements.”Â
Vivian also shares the requirements for the Express Entry application;
Age
I’m going to go over the requirements that are needed for Express Entry. The first thing is your age, your education, your language, work experience, and Canadian education. If you have siblings in Canada and provincial nominations. Those are the things that going to give you scores. I know that you get points for work experience in Canada as well. You can get points if you have a valid job offer supported by LMIA Those are the things that we are going to be breaking down and also tips about how I did mine as well.Â
After visiting the website, you get the most points for the age if you are under 30, if you are not under 30, all hope is not lost,
Vivian on points for education
For education, you need a minimum of a BSC, with the numbers they are picking now, the last draw was around 486, you are going to need at least a master’s degree to be able to get points now. Having a bachelor’s degree is basic and it will not get you the point you need so you need a master’s or Ph.D. Let me tell you how it worked for me. When I started out, I went to the CRS calculator and checked all the criteria.
I started out in 2019, and the reason people tell you it takes a long time to get your permanent residence is because it takes a long time to prepare, it is not the process itself. I went to the CRS calculator, I checked everything, the things that would give me points, the things I already had and the things I needed to get. I had just a bachelor’s degree so I got a postgraduate diploma (PGD) and also started attending French classes so I’d be able to take the TEF exam to give me more points apart from English.Â
Taking it step by step, we’ve talked about age, and for education, I’ll advise a master’s or PhD so you can meet up with the current score.
Vivian shared her thoughts about the language requirements
For language, I will highly recommend French. French is actually easy, I started learning French in December 2019, because I wanted to take the TEF exam. If you take French, you get more points than if you take English and if you take both, your score is going to skyrocket. Although I did not end up doing the French exam, because midway when the pandemic started and we were learning from home, I couldn’t keep up and was not learning well so I eventually dropped out but I know people that we learned together, did their exam and today they are in Canada.Â
Vivian talked about the requirements for work experience
For work experience, I would advise you to get at least a minimum of 3 years of work experience and make sure that where you are working they are giving you a salary that is going into a particular account. You need to have that just in case IRCC asks you for a bank statement for your salary.Â
For work experience, you will need an offer letter from your job and also a letter of introduction. You need those to prove you have that work experience. The offer letter will be dated to when you started the job and the letter of introduction will say what you do for the company, how long you have been with the company and so on. You can check online for templates on how to draft the letters and the HR of your company should be able to help.Â
Your sibling can get you a provincial nomination – Vivian
Another thing that can earn you points is if you have a sibling in Canada. Another thing that can earn you a lot of points is provincial nomination. Provincial nominations differ from province to province. There are some provinces that do not need family ties and there are some that do. You need to know what you are going for and the province you’ll like to go to.Â
You also need WES evaluation – Vivian
For education, you are going to need to evaluate your certificates with WES. On the website, you will see the option for IRCC Canada.Â
Once you create a profile for WES, you upload your certificate or transcript. You also get your school to send WES your transcript. Once WES receives the transcript, they will send confirmation to your school to confirm it, once your school confirms, the evaluation will be done. If you have multiple degrees, you only need to do confirmation for your highest level of education not all of your degrees.Â
Language requirement
For the Language, TEF and IELTS. I am going to recommend two channels for IELTS. I recommend IELTSliz and E2 IELTS. For you to get the highest point in IELTS, you need 8 in listening, 7.5 in reading, 7 in speaking and 7 in writing.
Luckily for me, I was able to get a provincial nomination which added 600 points to my points in the Express Entry Draw.Â
You should also know that if you are married, ensure that your partner also writes the IELTS exam and scores the 8-7-7-7 just like you. They should also do their WES evaluation as well so that this will add to your point.Â
Once you have your IELTS and WES evaluation done, you can then create your Express Entry profile.Â
You’ll get your email in the evening of the day you get selected. After that, you will need to do your medical and police report. Do all of these as early as you can.Â
After all of these are done, you will need to start to gather your proof of fund(POF), it is advised that you go to Canada’s website to find out how much the POF is for your family size because the proof of fund varies per family size.
Once you have done this, it is time to upload your documents and
The documents areÂ
Proof of fund(POF)
Police report
Medical
IELTS/TEF
WES.
If you are divorced, you are going to need your complete divorce papersÂ
If you are travelling alone with your child, you’re divorced or separated, you will need to write a letter of explanation. In the letter of explanation, you will write in clear terms everything that has happened to explain why you will be travelling alone with your child. If you don’t write a clear letter of explanation you might get additional document requests and that makes their processing time longer. Â
You will also be needing a consent form if you will be travelling alone with your child as a single parent”
