Bahrain’s Golden Residency Visa Now Comes with a Work Permit
If you’ve ever dreamt of living and working in the heart of the Gulf, Bahrain might just be calling your name. The country has introduced an attractive 10-year Bahrain Golden Residency Visa that now includes the option to obtain a work permit. This move is part of Bahrain’s efforts to attract skilled professionals, investors, retirees, and individuals with specialised talents.
What Is the Bahrain Golden Residency Visa?
The Golden Residency Visa is Bahrain’s long-term residency scheme. It’s valid for 10 years and is renewable, provided you continue to meet the criteria. It allows for multiple entries, includes your immediate family, and requires you to stay in Bahrain for at least 90 days a year to remain valid.
But what’s even more exciting is that the visa now permits you to legally work in Bahrain, making it even more desirable for professionals and entrepreneurs.
Eligibility Criteria – Who Can Apply?
There are four main routes to qualifying for the visa:
- Property Investors – Own property in Bahrain worth at least BHD 200,000.
- Skilled Professionals – Have lived in Bahrain for five years with a monthly salary of BHD 2,000.
- Retirees – You must show a monthly income of BHD 4,000 and five years of continuous residence.
- Exceptional Talent – You need to be recognised by a Bahraini government authority for your achievements in fields like science, entrepreneurship, or academia.
The Work Permit Advantage
If you plan to work, you should know that the Golden Residency holders can now apply for a work permit through the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA). You’ll need:
- A valid Golden Residency Visa
- A clean commercial registration (CR)
- A passport valid for at least six months
- A termination form is required if changing jobs
The work permit costs BHD 172 and covers the permit and basic health services. There’s also a BHD 5 admin fee added to your CR’s monthly invoice. It’s valid for one year and is usually processed within 10 working days.
How to Apply
Applications can be submitted online through Bahrain’s eServices portal or at approved service centres. What you’ll need:
- Proof of identity (valid passport)
- Health insurance valid in Bahrain
- Proof of income, property, or talent
- A medical fitness certificate
- A BHD 4 application fee and a BHD 300 issuance fee (upon approval)
