Another school that had a representative during the Intake Education Top 250 QS World/Russell Group Universities Events is the University of Leicester and we at japa.ng also attended the event where the representative, Ms Yakubu Abigail spoke to hopeful candidates about everything good you should know about the university and why you should consider it. 

The University of Leicester is a centrally-based campus that is close to the Leicester City centre. It is a 10-minute walk to the Leicester train station and about 15 minutes walk to the city centre and about 5 to 20 minutes walk to city living accommodation. The University of Leicester is a small and self-contained campus that Is a mixture of modern architecture and 20th-century architecture and is surrounded by Nature and Victoria Park.

If you want to study actuarial science at the University of Leicester, you should know that the courses are accredited by the institute and faculty of actuaries (IFoA) with eight examination exemptions.

Requirements and fees for actuarial science

As an undergraduate, you will need, 

ABB (Maths A), GCSE English C

For postgraduate and masters students, 

You need a 2:1, high 2;2 and relevant subjects 

The fee IS £20,825 per year.

Business, Management. and Marketing, 

As a student of Business, Management and Marketing at the University of Leicester, you get to enjoy a lot of things.

The department has over 90 years of experience and is a Chartered Association of Business Schools. It also has the Small Chartered Business Award and academic staff from different backgrounds.

You also get to enjoy with “Industry” options and there are six entrepreneurs in Residence to support you with ideas and startup planning

Requirements and fees 

As an undergraduate,

you’re required ABB plus GCSE English C

The fee for this department is about £17,450 per year

For the postgraduate and master’s students, 

You need a very strong 2;2,

The fee is about £21,850. 

Economics, Accounting and Finance

This department has dedicated trading rooms with 12 Bloomberg terminals to help develop skills that employers ask for.

In this department, you’re able to gain practical skills and there are six entrepreneurs in residence supports with ideas and startup planning. There is also a dedicated careers and employability team and you get with “industry” options available.

Requirements and fees 

Undergraduate – ABB plus GCSE English C,

The fee per year is £17,450.

For master’s and postgraduate, you must have a high 2:2

and the fee per year is £21,850

Engineering 

This department offers accredited programs and you get to gain a general understanding in year one before choosing to specialise in year 203. You also get a year in industry options as students are placed at companies such as Rolls-Royce, IBM and TATA

Requirement and fees 

 The undergraduate requirement is ABB plus GCSE English C and the fee per year for undergraduate is £21,515 

Masters and postgraduate 

You will need a high 2:2 And irrelevant subject and per year your fee would be £21,850

Media 

The society offers highly specialised programs like Media and Communication, Journalism Media and Society. As a student of the department, you get to develop skills for the media industry as there are student-run media on the campus that includes TV, online newspaper and radio. They also get access to standard film, sound and editing equipment and in the third year get industry career advice 

Requirement and fees 

The requirements for undergraduates in media at the University of Leicester are,

ABB plus GCSE English B (Journalism) or C (Media) and per year the fee would be £17,450

For your masters, you will need a strong 2:1 and per year, the fee would be £19,750.

Law 

If you study law at the University of Leicester, you will gain practical experience, learn how to write a letter of legal advice to your clients, you volunteer for miscarriages of justice projects on real-life criminal cases. You also get full work experience in legal advice clinic, you get to network with law firms including the Five Magic Circle Firms, and access to dedicated Local Career Tutors and to a couple of these graduates from the law faculty in Leicester are 4th for graduate employability in England according to the Guardian League Table 2018

Fees and Requirements

If you’re open to being an undergraduate in the department of Law, at the University of Leicester, you will need an AAB plus GCSE English C and your fee per year will be £16,825 

For postgraduates, masters,

You will need a high 2:2 or 2:1 and a yearly fee of £17,700

Scholarships available for students at the University of Leicester 

Merit scholarship for the school of Media and Sociology is £5,000 for students with first class and £3,000 for students with 2:1

Merit scholarship School of Business is £3,000 

Merit scholarship for law is £5,000 for first class and £3,000 for 2:1

Merit scholarship for the School of Engineering Informatics and Geography is £5,000 for students with first class and £3,000 for students with 2:1

Accommodation 

The University provides accommodation for students and there are six locations within walking distance from the main campus, there is also self-catered accommodation with available room types like single studio flats, one bedroom flats, single bedroom and single ensuite
