English Language Proficiency Test 

In a lot of countries, international employers and education if you’re schooling abroad will ask you for a language proficiency test. The English language proficiency test is a requirement and I know that it is quite possible for you to get confused without knowing exactly what types of English proficiency tests there are and which one will be needed for your line of work, whether you’re getting an education, or you are just relocating to a new country. Types Of English Language Proficiency Tests

TOEFL

The TOEFL proficiency test is accepted in more than 11,000 institutions and universities all over the world and the exam is used to examine once English proficiency which is something that is needed for academic purposes regularly. Test Of English As A Foreign Language is a test for non-native speakers of the English language that is accepted globally and standardised. The test makes use of academic language and high-level vocabulary. A lot of organisations, educational institutions are universities prefer to take the TOEFL exam because of how standardised it is.

The TOEFL test is divided into four sections;

Speaking 

Writing 

Listening

Reading 

There are two types of tests for the exam;

TOEFL Internet Based Test (IBT)

TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT)

OET

The Occupational English Test is the proficiency test usually used by healthcare professionals. It is a recommended test for healthcare professionals because it’s their skills in using the English language in the healthcare environment.

There are 12 healthcare careers that the proficiency test covers and they are dentistry, veterinary science, speech pathology, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, diabetes, medicine, occupational therapy, podiatry, radiography, optometry

The test is divided into four sections: writing, reading, listening and speaking.

There are three OET test types, which are;

OET Computer Based at the venue 

OET At Home

OET Paper Based 

The exam will take about 3 hours with the listening section lasting about 15 minutes, the reading section for about 16 minutes and 20 minutes for this speaking test section and for the writing section, 45 minutes. The OET exam cost about $445 

CAE (C1 Advanced)

The CAE (C1 Advanced) English language proficiency test is accepted in over 9000 institutions and it is also recognised by employers like Siemens, Adidas, Coca-Cola and more. The CAE exam belongs to the Cambridge English language exams suite. It is also divided into four sections which are; listening, writing, reading and use of English, and speaking. The exam time is 40 minutes for listening, and the rest of the exam also lasts for 40 minutes

The cost of the CAE exam is $195.

ISE 

Integrated Skill in English Exams (ISE) is a contemporary test qualification for the English language. The test is accepted and recognised by institutions and government offices. It is a proficiency test that came from Trinity College London.

The IRC test has two modules which you can choose to take separately. The modules are writing, reading and the other is listening and speaking. To take the reading and writing module, you will need to go to the official testing centres. The test will take you about 2 hours and the listening exam takes around 13 to 25 minutes.

iTEP

The International Test Of English Proficiency (iTEP) is actually the most on-demand internet-based English proficiency test. It is among the well-known proficiency test that is accepted by institutions all around the world.

iTEP Academic Plus and the iTEP Academic Core. The iTEP Academic Plus is going to test your speaking, reading, writing and listening while the iTEP Academic Core tests your reading, listening and grammar.

There are three types of iTEP tests;

iTEP Slate

iTEP Placement

iTP Academic.

The exam would last from 90 minutes to about 1 or 30 minutes. iTEP academic core lasts for about 15 minutes with a 10-minute preparation time.

The iTEP Academic Core will cost you about $66, the Academic Plus will cost you $129.

PTE English Proficiency Exam 

The Pearson English language proficiency test is a test that will assess the candidate’s proficiency in speaking, listening, writing and reading. The test is also recognised all over the world by many agencies, organisations and institutions. 

There are three types of the PTE exam;

The PTE General, 

 PTE Young Learners,

And PTE Academic.

The exam will take you about 3 hours long with the reading test lasting about 32 to 41 minutes, the listening test about 45 to 57 minutes and the general test divided into five sections with delivery one test lasting for about 2 hours and 45 minutes, level 4 test lasting for 2 hours 30 minutes and level 3 test lasting for about 2 hours. The test will cost you about $210.
