It is so tough living apart from your loved ones yet this is the reality of a lot of Nigerians who have japa and have had no choice but to leave family and loved ones behind in a bid for greener pastures and a better life. This is also the case with a lot of Nigerians who have relocated to Canada.
The Canadian government is keen on uniting people with their family members and loved ones and aims to help both permanent residents and citizens be able to sponsor their loved ones to migrate to live and work in Canada.
Update For The Parents and Grandparents Program For 2025
For the year 2025, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) will be accepting up to 10,000 complete applications under the Parents and Grandparents Program. As it has been done from 2020-2024, Instead of accepting new forms, the IRCC intends to do this by sending out random invitations from the interest to sponsor forms from the 2020 pool.
As of February 5, 2025, if you’re applying through the PGP Program, you’re looking at about a 24-month wait if you’re headed outside Quebec. For those applying for Quebec, it’s closer to 48 months because the province has stricter family class admission targets. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada knows picking randomly from the 2020 pool will affect families who have not gotten a chance to submit an interest to sponsor form and so urges them to also consider the Super visa.
The super visa will grant grandparents and parents the chance to visit their grandchildren and children for at least 5 years at a time and up to 10 years multiple entries into Canada, and the super visa is even easier to access now with the change to the requirement for health insurance
