The Republic of Rwanda is a landlocked country in the Great rift valley of Central Africa This is where the African Great lakes region and southeast Africa converge. Neighboured by Burundi, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Tanzania, its capital is Kigali, with a population of over 13 million people.

Activities For Your Rwanda Trip
Gorilla TrackingÂ
One of the amazing experiences that you can get in Rwanda is gorilla tracking. You get to have guided encounters with gorillas as they go about their daily life. You are taken on this trip with expert trackers and guides. These gorillas are endangered species and the Volcanoes National Park is home to 12 gorilla families which are about 1, 000 mountain gorillas in the wild and 604 in the Virunga Massif. Part of the 12 families includes at least one silverback and several females and young stars.
 The 12 gorilla families are known as Karisimbi, Amahoro, Kwitonda, Muhoza, Susa, Ugyenda, Igisha, Agashya, Umubano and Bwenge.
To be able to enjoy gorilla tracking on your Rwanda trip, you need to book in advance either online or via a reputable tour operator because only 96 permits are available each day with eight tracking permits per troop to make the experience as intimate as possible.
One of the gorilla activities is the yearly Kwita Izina Gorilla Naming Ceremony. The ceremony is usually filled with a lot of fun that includes music dancing and conversations about Rwanda’s progress in the conservation of gorillas and the challenges they still face.
To enjoy gorilla tracking, the cost is $1,500 per person for a day and the age limit is 15 years old. It is advised that you wear solid working shoes and sturdy clothing to protect you against stinging nettles.
Primates TrackingÂ
Fun activities like primate tracking are also one of the experiences that you can enjoy on your Rwanda Trip. For primate tracking, the tracking starts early at 5:30 a.m. and goes on for about an hour to several hours depending on whether the chimpanzees are sighted.
Sights to expect are the golden monkeys which can be found in the Volcanoes National Park,
also Gishwati Forest.

Bird Watching
A birder’s haven, Rwanda is home to about 703 species, 29 Albertine Rift Endemics.Â
Some of the bird species that can be found in Rwanda include several Lake Victoria Basin Endemics, the Red Collared Babbler, Regal, Blue Headed and Purple Breasted Sunbirds, Rwenzori Nightjar, and Grauer’s Warbler, to mention a few.
To enjoy the sight of the birds, You focus on the Nyungwe National park which is in the west of Rwanda and Akagera National park which is in the east.
Some of the other places where you can bird watch include Lake Kivu, Kigali, The Wetlands, Volcanoes National Park, Gishwati-Mukura National Park.

As stated earlier, exploring Rwanda on fruit is a great way to take in Rwanda’s jaw-dropping scenery, the magnificent wildlife and enjoy the pleasant climate. You can enjoy I can around the Western half of the country and this goes from The volcanoes National Park, to the fringes of Lake Evo and Nyungwe National Park. The hike allows you to experience awesome views. The Nyungwe National park alone has trails like Karamba Trail, Umoyove Trail, Igishigishigi Trail, Umugote Trail, Bigugu Trail, Uwinka Trail, Imbaraga Trail, Muzimu Trail to mention a few.

For the heritage and culture of Rwanda,
- You can enjoy the King’s Palace which is a reconstruction of the traditional real residence and is a palace beautifully crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive.Â
- You can also visit the museums and art galleries one of which is the ethnographic museum which was a gift from Belgium’s king Badoiun in the late 1980s. The ethnographic museum has seven galleries that display ethnographic, archaeological, historical and artistic artefacts
All of this allows you to experience and gives you an insight into Rwanda’s culture. The museum opens daily from 8 am to 6 pm.
Because It is visa-free for Nigerians You do not have to worry about the cost of a visa but flights to Rwanda are usually between 400,000 naira to 600,000 naira and this is dependent on the day you are booking, the class of flights and also the airline used.
Accommodation in Rwanda will cost you between 28,000 naira to as high as 700,000 naira for a 3-day stay depending on the type of accommodation booked.
