There is a new thing in the Netherlands called the essential startup personnel work permit.
As a Nigerian that wants a chance to live and work in the Netherlands, you will need a resident’s permit.

There are certain requirements that the company that you will be working with and the Netherlands must meet to be able to be counted as a startupÂ
Requirements For A Company To Be Acceptable As A Startup
- The company must have an employee of at least 15 people
- The company must meet the employee income requirements
- The product or service that the company is providing must be new to the country.
- Â There must be the use of new technology in the production distribution or marketing of the companyÂ
Requirements For Essential Startup Personnel Work Permit
The essential startup personnel work permit requires that you are an expert in the field that the startup needs.Â
You must have an employment contract with the companyÂ
You must also conduct a tuberculosis test after you have arrived in the country.
Validity of the Essential Startup Personnel Work Permit
The essential startup personnel work permit is usually valid for a maximum of three years and the validity also depends on the length of your employment contract although you can extend the residence permit after the 3 years is up.
Cost of the Essential Startup Personnel Work Permit
The essential startup personnel work permit will cost you 350 euros.
Documents needed for your essential startup personnel work permit
 You will need a valid international passportÂ
Your employment contract valid for at least one yearÂ
 Your university degreeÂ
Your curriculum vitaeÂ
A completed and signed appendix will include a police report and a criminal record that shows that you are an upright citizen.
 A contract that is signed by the startup company and you that indicates the percentage, the type and the conditions of your participation.
 Your payslip that is not older than 3 monthsÂ

Processing Time
The processing time for the visa is usually 90 days although it can be extended if the application is not complete, in which case the IND will send you a message
Usually, you will get a decision on your application via a letter and if you get a positive response you will get an MVV which is a valid provisional residence permit and you can then travel to the Netherlands with the MVV. The MVV is valid for 90 days.
It is important that before you collect your MVV you should ensure that your passport is still going to be valid for another 6 months. You must don’t have your biometric data taken which will include your signature, your fingerprints and also a new passport photo. After which he will get a notification when your residence permit is available and you will be asked to pick it up.
You should know that a work permit is not required for specific work and you are allowed to do all kinds of work if a work permit has been granted.
Things you should know about living in the NetherlandsÂ
- You are required to register with the municipality in the personal records database if you have lived in the Netherlands for over 4 months. Once this is done the municipality will issue a citizen service number to you.
- After at least 3 months of living in the country, you will need to take a Tuberculosis test. You will need to make an appointment at the public health service and you will have to take with you your residence permit.
- if you have children, it is compulsory for children between the ages of 5 to 16 to have compulsory education in the Netherlands. You will need to register your child at a school.
- Â It is advisable that when you are leaving Nigeria you go with your birth certificate to the Netherlands as you will need a legalized and translated birth certificate to be able to register with the municipality.
- One of the compulsory things you will need to do as a migrant in the Netherlands is to register for health care insurance. Everyone who lives in the Netherlands actually does this and you will need to do this within at least four months after your I have arrived in the country.
- If you have a residence permit, you may be required to learn the Dutch language and also about the culture and the labour market, this is to help you integrate properly into Dutch society. If you plan to apply for permanent residence and become a Dutch citizen via naturalization, you will need to have lived in the Netherlands for five years and also you must prove that you have been integrated civically into the dead society and you may have to take the Civic integration exam as a requirement.
